"How do you share the story of a complex scientific breakthrough in relatable terms? Agency AREA 23 and LOBO joined forces to offer animation as a salve for a sensitive subject, conveying complicated subjects with empathy, respect, and just the right amount of humor. The agency concepted the initial narrative, represented by three captivating worlds and two points of view uniting to complete their unique puzzle. LOBO developed a script and utilized art direction to emphasize the contrasting spaces further, lending each its own mood and storytelling devices: from the action thriller to the comedic, with simple shapes, colorful scapes and shadowy scenes. Lush, painterly 2D animation communicates the human emotion of an otherwise clinical endeavor, abstracting the ups and downs of good and bad news to portray disappointment, hope and, ultimately, perseverance."
