The Brazilian racial quotas law that sets aside places at federal public universities for non-white minorities will reach its 10th anniversary in 2022, therefore entering a review process as foreseen by one of its articles.
To ensure that the law is renewed and expanded, the AR Movement launched an online petition, and granted Grey agency Sao Paulo and LOBO the honor of creating an animated film to call on as many people as possible to participate in the initiative.
Directed by Fabio Acorsi, the film uses the visual language of protest, direct and urgent, reminiscent of graffiti and street posters. With rough textures, synthetic illustrations and a minimalist palette composed of red, grey, white and black, the piece combines allegorical representations of situations described in Bia Ferreira’s song “Quotas Are Not Handouts” with infographics presenting data on the need for the Law of Quotas and the benefits it brings to society.
