To greet the arrival of summer 2021 in Japan, Coca-Cola is releasing their second alcoholic beverage brand, called Nomel’s Hard Lemonade. The drink comes in three refreshing flavors, encased in colorful, pop-styled cans embellished by Walnut, a Tokyo-based illustrator.
To give life to the breezy, upbeat mood of the packaging, agency NHL Tokyo brought together live action director Genki Ito and LOBO’s 2D animation division, led by directors Isa Littger and Mateus de Paula Santos.
The film imagines the drink as the brainchild of three young friends, Natalie, Naomi and Ben, who created the delicious recipes together and started selling them out of a charming VW van. This sunny, optimistic atmosphere of friendship and community was perfectly captured on film by mr. Ito, translated into illustrations by Walnut and, to top it all off, animated by LOBO in a light, playful and exhilarating way, packed with vibrant colors, fluid motion and a distinctive hand-drawn style.
