Hanging out after work, three of Lobo’s artists started a collective drawing activity. On a single piece of paper they let their minds wander, getting inspiration from one another’s drawings and keeping a continuous flow of hand-drawn graphics. They named this collective free-association session “Josh”, for reasons known only to their subconscious.
The odd figure combinations this technique creates resemble hypnagogic images from the intermediate realm between consciousness and sleep. Hence, it perfectly fit the concept of the Diesel Dreams project, which was all about the dreaming experience.
For this short piece we started out from a picture provided by the client, and then proceeded to adapt that drawing style into 3D animation, trying to keep the hand-drawn, improvisational feel of those collective sketching sessions.
